She never should have married him.

Olivia Walters is heading west along the Oregon Trail to escape a disastrous offer of marriage, but when gambler, Charlie Garrett, wins her hand in marriage in a poker game, she finds herself in exactly the situation she hoped to avoid. She is a woman of honor and determined to make the best of it, especially when her roguish new husband proves to me charming and seductive. But things aren’t what they seem…

Charlie Garrett thought he could escape the crimes of his past and start a new life out West. He never intended to marry, but when clever school teacher, Olivia, loses her bet, he loses his heart. When a ghost from his past show up on the trail, intent on revenge, Charlie must become more than the charming rake in order to save Olivia and the surprising love growing between them.

This book is the eighth book in this series but the first one I have read. I followed the story easily so they are all stand-alones.

Olivia Walters is running from an unwanted marriage. Her mother thought Silas Pitts was everything a girl could wish for. But Olivia found him distasteful. And she wanted very much to teach. She knew both Silas and her mother disapproved of married women working. So she signed up for a wagon train, knowing there would be plenty of opportunities to teach in Oregon. Her mother finally agreed to let her go because she would be traveling with the Hamiltons, friends of her mother, who could properly chaperone her.
Charlie Garrett was a gambler, a gambler intent on changing his life. He just didn't quite know how.
One day, to pass the time Charlie and Olivia agree to play some poker. What starts out as a joke on Charlie's part ends up as a marriage between Charlie and Olivia. There is a villain, of course, who joins the train expressly to extract something from Charlie.

I loved the main characters. Charlie was so amiable and had many good qualities. He was trying hard to turn his life around. Olivia was an innocent. She was drawn to Charlie but couldn't quite trust him. The story became intense when Chet joined the train. He was a scoundrel through and through. There were many interesting side characters that must have been featured in previous books or will be in future books. I really enjoyed this book. I will be reading more books from this series. Come on along the Oregon Trail. It promises to be a fun ride.

Trail of Aces Hot on the Trail Book 8 edition by Merry Farmer Romance eBooks Reviews

This is my favorite from the series. Started in deceit but ended in true love. It was sweet yet suspenseful. I enjoyed that the hero realizes he had good thing with the heroine and makes sure he works hard to win her over after he messes up. Reformed bad boys, and all their past flaws, are the best.

Heroine had her own good girl rebelling streak, and it sure comes out well in the end;) She may have has reservations but did great making hero prove himself. Give her credit for her loyalty through it all as well.

The climax was definitely exciting. The HEA was sweet. I like loyal heroes, flawed characters getting 2nd chance in life and love conquering all. This book had it all.

The love scenes were nice and well written, but few and mild in heat. Great read. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for good western romance story. Safe read. No OW/OM drama. No cheating. Loyal couple. Laid back and funny hero.
Charlie tries to make a get with Olivia, if she loses she has to marry Charlie.
Have you read this book yet? If not you have to get it. You will love it too.

I was hooked from the very beginning, I had to listen to it until I finished
Just a minute ago. Find out all the exciting things that happened in this
Story.

I highly recommend that you get this book and read or listen to it yourself.
I'm going to listen to book nine now for a little while. I can hardly wait.
Olivia has grown up in an emotionally abusive household. Charlie is a gambler and a con man. They meet on a wagon train heading to Oregon territory. On a whim Charlie talks Olivia into playing a game of poker with him. Olivia thinks she has beaten Charlie with four aces, but Charlie beats her with a straight flush (he cheated, openly, and thought she knew) and his reward is her hand in marriage. Charlie's ex partner catches up to the wagon train and trouble ensues. You see, Charlie had been befriended by the mark that he and Chet had planned to rob and after the old man died, leaving Charlie a fortune in jewels and cash, Charlie took the money and ran. Chet was not happy with Charlie and followed him west. After Chet tells lies to Olivia about Charlie she tells Charlie that she can't stay married to him. Will Olivia and Charlie get back together? Will Chet get what he's after? Ms Farmer has written an entertaining story with some great characters. Caution this is the steamy version.
***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. All thoughts are 100% mine.***

What do you get when you cross a scoundrel, card-shark with an honourable, hard-working woman? Marriage, of course! At least that’s what happened to Olivia Walters and Charlie Garrett. In Charlie’s defense, he thought she was pulling one over on him and didn’t realize until it was too late that she was serious. But Charlie was a man out to change himself, and he was doing a wonderful job until his past caught up to his present.

I really liked Charlie. He was a man who had done wrong but really wanted to do what was right, but wasn’t so certain what right was. I can admit, I wasn’t overly fond of Olivia at first. She was such a stiff shirt. But if she were any less strict about what was right and wrong, Charlie would have floundered. She made him a better man, simply because she expected it out of him. And he lightened her up and made her realize that laughter was just as important as honour. We get to see Lucy and Gideon, Estelle and Graham, and Josephine and Pete (there’s a hint that there might be a romance between those two! hot dog!) in this. I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy these two characters, but I’ll admit, they’re my favourite so far of this second group that Pete took across. We’ll see how Pete and Josephine do though!

Ms. Farmer, keeps one wagon train west fresh and new, even though there have been two stories before this from this same train. And we recognize parts because of certain events, each person has their own story and own environment. I really like that about her stories. I would recommend this book like the others that I’d read and reviewed. And just so you know, it’s steamy so, for those who don’t do steamy or for those too young for it, this isn’t the book for you.
I have read a few of the stories written by Merry Farmer and have enjoyed each and every one of them so please read this one!
I really enjoyed this book, as I do all of Merry Farmer's books. I love stories about the old west, and this one doesn't fail. Good story line. There is some sexual content, so if this offends you, beware.
