Elizabeth's New Start is short, but by no means lacking in substance. It tells the tale, both tragic and heartwarming, of a victim of abuse, and how her dear friend (who may or may not actually be real) teaches her how to pick herself up after she's fallen. The simple language used makes it easy to pick up and understand, while being insightful enough to provide a stark, unflinching look into the eyes of one who has been the victim of social and domestic abuse. Never is the audience's intelligence insulted; descriptions run just long enough to make their point, and the question "is this real?" is left intentionally vague, but in a way that feels natural, rather than a cop-out. At the same time, the tale succeeds at getting its message across without ever coming off as preachy or patronizing; the realities of what it is like to live in a fundamentally broken situation, and the mental burden placed on the recipient are simply portrayed exactly as they are, and hopefully should serve as an example to the reader of what goes on, sometimes right in front of our faces, without us noticing. Overall, ENS is short, but very sweet, and definitely worth a look.Product details
